Academic Governance
The University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa is committed to working with appropriate governance groups in the development of academic policies and procedures and the review of academic programs. Academic affairs decision-making processes are governed by Board of Regents policies. The Board of Regents has the ultimate responsibility for the governance of the University and the formulation of policies that guide and determine its affairs.
The Mānoa Faculty Congress is comprised of all Mānoa faculty and the Mānoa Faculty Senate is the elected agent of the Congress. The Senate is charged to act for the faculty on academic policy matters.
Consultation with the two elected student organizations, the Associated Students of the University of Hawai‘i (ASUH) and the Graduate Student Organization (GSO), is sought in matters that affect students. The ASUH is the governing body for the undergraduate students. ASUH regularly provides representation on key committees and advisory boards on issues affecting students.
The GSO represents classified graduate students (excluding students in Law and Medicine) at UH Mānoa. GSO regularly provides representation on key committees and advisory boards on issues affecting graduate students.
