AmeriCorps Members to Help Beautify He'eia State Park

Nearly 150 members will clean and plant seeds at the Kane'ohe park this Thursday

The Hawaiʻi Commission for National and Community Service will bring together nearly 150 members and supervisors from AmeriCorps*State, AmeriCorps*VISTA, AmeriCorps*National Direct, National Senior Service Corps, and Learn and Serve America programs to conduct a one-day community service project to beautify Heʻeia State Park in Kāneʻohe on Thursday, June 26, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Members of the commission from local agencies including Child & Family Service, Goodwill Industries of Hawaiʻi, Legal Aid Society of Hawaiʻi, Maui Economic Opportunity, Na Lei Wili AHEC, Volunteer Legal Services Hawaiʻi, Foster Grandparent Program, Retired Senior Volunteer Program, HIPPY Corps, US Vets, UH Service Learning, DOE Service Learning, Volunteer Center of Maui County, and AmeriCorps*VISTA, will clean and plant seeds at Heʻeia State Park throughout the day. Staff and students from various UH campuses will be among those participating.

AmeriCorps is designed to achieve direct results in addressing the nation‘s critical education, human, public safety, and environmental needs at the community level. The program provides meaningful opportunities for Americans of all ages and backgrounds to serve their country in organized efforts, fostering civic responsibility, building community, and providing educational opportunity for those who make a substantial commitment to service.
