UH Mānoa’s Hamilton Library will undergo an extensive, 8-month construction project to replace air conditioning equipment, ceilings, and light fixtures. This project will impact different floors and sections of the Library at various times, affecting access to collections and services. The project will begin on March 25, 2013, and continue through the Fall of 2013.

The renovation will begin on the first floor and will displace the Administrative Offices from March 25 until the beginning of May, depending on how the work progresses.   At this time, the Library anticipates the other floors will be worked on in the following order: 5th floor (May – end of June), 4th floor, 2nd floor, and finally, the 3rd floor.

Some or all materials in collections located in various parts of Hamilton Library (Asia, Business, Humanities and Social Sciences, Charlot, Hawaiian and Pacific, and Northeast Asia) will be unavailable at different times for up to eight weeks at a time. Classrooms may be moved or will be periodically unavailable. In addition, some group study rooms will be unavailable part of the time.

The Hawaiian, Pacific, and Charlot collections and service desks on the fifth floor of the main building of Hamilton Library will be closed beginning in May 2013 for a period of six to eight weeks. Reference service and instruction related to these collections will be limited during this period.

The Asia collections and reference desk on the fourth floor of the main building of Hamilton will be closed beginning in July 2013 for a period of six to eight weeks. Reference service and instruction related to these collections will be limited during this period. Asia collections on the third floor will be inaccessible at times in the Fall.

If you expect to be teaching a course in 2013 that will require access to collections, contact the appropriate collection to discuss your class and research or library assignments.

If you are working on research or writing projects for which you will need access to the collections, please contact the Library as soon as possible.  Likewise, if you are planning to travel to Honolulu for research at the Library, please contact them well in advance.
