UH Manoa’s Delta Omega Chapter of IEEE-Eta Kappa Nu (IEEE-HKN), the electrical and computer engineering honor society, received the Outstanding Chapter Award at its annual banquet last month.

This is the sixth year in a row that the UH Manoa chapter has won this award, recognizing its contributions to the electrical engineering department, university, and community. Only 24 out of approximately 200 university chapters received the Outstanding Chapter Award for the 2010-11 academic year.

IEEE is the world’s largest technical professional association, whose motto is “advancing technology for the benefit of humanity.” IEEE-HKN is IEEE’s student honor society, whose members are selected on the basis of academic excellence, leadership, outstanding character, and service. There are over 200,000 IEEE-HKN members worldwide.

The featured speaker at last month’s banquet was Emeritus Professor Kazutoshi Najita, who was instrumental in establishing the UH Manoa chapter in 1963. Najita provided anecdotes of the chapter’s early years, and urged the members to use their exceptional abilities to promote the well-being and improve the quality of life of others.
