America is at war. Now is the time to hope for a quick resolution that returns our troops home safely and minimizes civilian casualties.

During the next several days, there may be demonstrations for or against the war across our campuses. All discourse is appropriate, as debate is a cornerstone of an academic setting and our country‘s constitution. As a university we are unique in that differing ideas and factions can come together as ohana.

The university community is prepared should any incidents occur on any of our campuses. Our emergency efforts are closely coordinated with State and local officials. I encourage every member of our community to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity.

We share a common bond of humanity. I urge all members of the university community to support each other during this time with respect and compassion and aloha.
