HONOLULU – The Regents Candidate Advisory Council (RCAC) has presented a list of candidates to Gov. Neil Abercrombie to fill a Hawai‘i County seat on the UH Board of Regents. Gov. Abercrombie must select his nominee for the Board of Regents from this list, and the appointment must be confirmed by the state Senate during the next legislative session.

Selected as finalists were:
These finalists were selected upon careful screening and thorough vetting of the applications received and were considered to have the best qualifications and experience to serve as a member of the Board of Regents. They were also considered in light of how their appointment will enhance the collective skills of the board, given the current conditions, priorities and plans of the university system, and how their appointment will add to the diversity of the board.

This seat on the UH Board of Regents was originally vacated in late February 2010. It was subsequently filled by an interim regent appointed by former Gov. Linda Lingle after the Legislature adjourned in May 2010, and the term for this interim regent expired at the end of this past legislative session.

Gov. Abercrombie notified the RCAC of this vacancy by letter dated May 13, 2011, and the RCAC began the recruitment process immediately upon receipt of his letter on May 18, 2011. Applications were accepted through June 13, 2011.

As mandated by law, the RCAC is required to make its presentation of finalists within 60 days of notification of a vacancy by the governor.

The next recruitment process will begin in a few months to fill the seats of four members whose terms will expire on June 30, 2012. These members fill one City and County of Honolulu seat, a Kauai County seat, an At Large seat, and a Student seat. Nominations for these seats will be accepted through the application deadline, which historically has been early November.
