HONOLULU  On April 29, members of the University of Hawai‘i School of Architecture Alumni Association (UHSAAA) celebrated their fundraising success in support of the UHSAAA Scholarship Endowment Fund. Fundraising for this scholarship began in the 1980s and their recent gift of $69,400 brings the endowment fund total to $100,000. The UHSAAA raises funds for their endowed scholarship fund through an annual golf tournament.

The UHSAAA was formed in 1991 to help “enrich the university experience, foster fellowship, and achieve educational excellence by challenging and supporting the university through the interaction of the alumni, school and community”. To further this interaction, the association established the scholarship to support a promising, full-time architecture student.

“We felt that we should help students from Hawai‘i of potential and limited means gain the architectural educational experience we had all enjoyed and profited from,” said G. Linn Henniger, Henniger & Henniger Inc. and treasurer of UHSAAA.

Today, the UHSAAA golf tournament is one of the largest golf tournaments within architecture, engineering and construction industry.

“It is a significant accomplishment that our Alumni Association has built their student scholarship to more than $100,000,” said Clark Llewellyn, FAIA, dean, School of Architecture. “This scholarship demonstrates the value of working together and the rewards of commitment. Hundreds of alumni, friends, sponsors and others have contributed to reach this mark of achievement”.
