University of Hawaiʻi Maui College named Chelsey Ham from the counseling department as its Student Employee of the Year. Ham was awarded a $500 gift certificate to the UH Bookstore and will have her name engraved on a perpetual Student Employee of the Year plaque. Brenda Starcher from Student Life was awarded the Runner-Up prize and received a $75.00 gift certificate to the bookstore.

Ham said, “she was greatly honored to be chosen and it has been an exciting three years of experience working as a student assistant for the counseling department. The department has provided me with valuable skills and knowledge in furthering my educational and career goals in pursing my bachelor’s degree in psychology.”

The Student Employee of the Year (SEOTY) program is a national celebration to honor and recognize the important role that student assistants play on our college campuses.

The program is collaboration between the Financial Aid Office, Student Life, and the Associated Students of UH Maui College (ASUHMC). Supervisors were given the opportunity to nominate a student employee that they felt demonstrated excellence in their performance and contributed positively to their work environment.

This year there were 29 students nominated for the award. Each nominee will receive a gift card to the bookstore and a Certificate of Appreciation. UH Maui College congratulates the Ham, Starcher and all of the nominees.
