UH Hilo offers Filipino language and culture class

The University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo College of Continuing Education and Community Service (CCECS) presents an interactive course centering around three prominent languages (Filipino/Tagalog, Visayan/Cebuano and Ilokano) and regions by covering their histories from prehistoric times to the present. The class fee is $50 plus a $7 materials fee.

“Tayo Na Sa Filipinas: An Introduction to Filipino Language and Culture” is offered on Wednesdays from 6-8 p.m. beginning January 26 and continuing through April 6. In addition to a conversational language component, social practices, food, music, videos and photos will be shared by instructor Fred Soriano and guest speakers and instructors, including Romel De La Cruz, Jay Sasan, Lito Asuncion, Margarita Hopkins and Antonia Lambayan.
