UH Mānoa Law School is co-sponsoring a panel discussion and conversation on the issues confronting the Muslim and gay communities.  The discussion will take place on Thursday, December 2, from 6-8 p.m. at the William S. Richardson School of Law located at 2525 Dole Street.  
 
This forum focuses on sharing thoughts over dinner to begin to build a coalition to work together to overcome misunderstanding and discrimination faced by both communities in the United States.  This forum is hosted by the Law School's Lamba Law Student Association, the Law Student Bar Association, Japanese American Citizens League, and Student Equity Excellence & Diversity.  
  
The forum will include speakers: Nagwa Ibrahim, Esq., board member of the Muslim Bar Association. She is also the co-director and producer of the documentary “Beyond the Bullet,” a film about the nonviolent resistance movement in Palestine, and author of “The Origins of Muslim Racialization in U.S. Law,” published in the UCLA Journal of Islamic and Near Eastern Law; Dr. Amanullah De Sondy, visiting assistant professor from the department of Religious Studies at the University of Miami whose main academic interest is concentrated on gender and sexuality in classical and modern Islam, specifically Islamic Masculinities. De Sondy earned his PhD in theology and religious studies at the University of Glasgow (Scotland), with a focus on Islamic Studies, and has been active in interfaith dialogue event; and Kathleen Sands,  associate professor of American Studies at UH Mānoa, who specializes in many areas, including religion in America, religion and law, women in religion, Christian history, and theory of religion. She also sits on the editorial board of The Journal of Law and Religion.
