Campus ranked 115th worldwide by Times Higher Education

The University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa has been ranked 115th out of the top 200 institutions worldwide for the 2010-11 year by Times Higher Education. This is the first time that UH Mānoa has been ranked.
“The Times Higher Education rankings are possibly the most influential of the world university rankings, so it is great to see UH Mānoa receive international recognition for its academic programs,” said Reed Dasenbrock, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs.
Twenty-six countries are represented in the top educational institutions worldwide. Thirteen performance indicators were designed to capture the full range of university activities—from teaching to research to knowledge transfer. These elements were combined into five categories:
· Teaching - the learning environment (represents 30 percent of the final ranking score)
· Research - volume, income and reputation (30 percent)
· Citations - research influence (32.5 perent)
· Industry income - innovation (2.5 percent)
· International mix - staff and students (5 percent)
In addition to the 115th worldwide ranking recognition, UH Mānoa is also ranked 62nd in North America, 58th in the United States, and 20th among the nation’s public institutions.
Times Higher Education completely overhauled its methodology last year to deliver a more rigorous, transparent and reliable ranking system. Over a 10-month period, the organization developed a new methodology, with input from more than 50 leading figures in the higher education sector from 15 countries.
