Gabe Baltazar, one of the world‘s premier jazz musicians, will perform live at UH Mānoa on Friday, October 25, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Mānoa Gardens. Baltazar is October‘s guest performer for Mānoa Jazz, a monthly event held on the last Friday of the month and is sponsored by the Campus Center Board. The general public is invited to attend.

Baltazar, a McKinley High School graduate, was honored as the "Kupuna of Jazz" at the 8th annual Hawai'i International Jazz Festival. He is a veteran of the Los Angeles studio scene who first achieved notice as a member of the Stan Kenton Orchestra. Baltazar moved to the mainland from Hawai'i in the mid-1950s where he recorded with Paul Togawa. He gained recognition for his years with Kenton during which he recorded a few rewarding solos, and has also worked with Terry Gibs, Gil Fuller, and Oliver Nelson.
