UH Mānoa’s Lyon Arboretum and PREL’s Regional Educational Laboratory Pacific (REL Pacific) will host a workshop for educators on Wednesday, August 18, from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at Treetops located at 3737 Mānoa Road.

Join Michael Kamil, PhD, and Lori Phillips, EdD, of PREL, for a morning of engaging presentations and discussions, and an afternoon of putting teaching strategies into practice in the Arboretum’s beautiful garden setting. Drs. Kamil and Phillips, along with Arboretum research and education staff, will also demonstrate strategies for increasing student vocabulary and comprehension, and bolstering student engagement and motivation.

Kamil is a professor of education at Stanford University and the chair of a six-member panel that contributed to the development of the IES Practice Guide: Improving Adolescent Literacy: Effective Classroom and Intervention Practices. It is published by the Institute of Education Sciences, National Center for Education Evaluation and Regional Assistance, U.S. Department of Education.
