Travel Industry Management student earns national recognition

Konrad Talon, a senior in the School of Travel Industry Management at UH Mānoa, has been named one of three National Academy Foundation (NAF) alumni honorees. He will receive his award at the annual NAF conference in Philadelphia in July.

 

Talon is a 2005 graduate of the Maui High School Academy of Hospitality and Tourism. 

The national award recognizes student achievement in the classroom and industry, and a commitment to his/her high school Academy. 

 

He is the first in his family to attend college and pursue a college degree—namely, a bachelor of science degree in TIM. He has taken on a leadership role as chairman of the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) Satellite Chapter, tripling its membership within a year.

 

In addition to carrying a full academic course load at UH Mānoa, Talon works full-time for Prince Resorts Hawai‘i, and is an executive intern with the general manager of the Royal Hawaiian Hotel in Waikīkī.   

 

Talon was the keynote speaker for the 2008 Statewide Academy of Student Conference. He was recently awarded the Dean’s Spirit of TIM Award at the TIM School’s industry networking event, Na Kukui, at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel’s Monarch Room in April.

 

Talon was nominated by Carol Reimann, executive director of the Maui Hotel & Lodging Association.
