UH West O‘ahu graduates celebrate commencement.
This Sunday, May 16, is a special day for 91 UH West O‘ahu graduates who will receive their degrees and certificates during commencement ceremonies beginning at 4 p.m. at the beautifully historic Hawai‘i Theatre in downtown Honolulu.

Of the UH West O‘ahu graduates, 23 will receive their baccalaureate in Business Administration, 13 in Humanities, 17 in Public Administration and 37 in Social Sciences. Graduates will also receive certificates in various programs including Applied Forensic Anthropology, Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management, Healthcare Administration and Substance Abuse and Addictions Studies.

University of Hawai‘i Board of Regents Chair Howard Karr and University of Hawai‘i System Vice President for Academic Planning and Policy Linda Johnsrud will address the graduates. Brooke Rehmann, one of this Sunday’s graduates, will speak on behalf of the graduating class. With a 3.87 GPA, Rehmann is the recipient of the Outstanding Neighbor Island Social Sciences Student Award. A Jersey Shore native, she moved to Maui in 2004 to begin her career in early childhood education. She earned an associate’s degree from Maui Community College and plans on attending the Teachers College at Columbia University following her graduation from UH West O‘ahu. She strives to bring all of the wonderful things she’s learned in Hawai‘i and UH West O‘ahu to the people of New York City with the intention of one day returning to the islands.

Doors will open at 3:30 p.m. and the ceremony will begin promptly at 4 p.m. Graduates are expected to greet friends and family members immediately after the ceremony at Sun Yat Sen Park makai of the theater at approximately 5 p.m. No strollers, tripods or balloons are allowed inside the theater. Parking is available in nearby municipal lots at a rate of $3-$5 for the entire day.

A video of the commencement ceremony will be available on the UH West O‘ahu website at www.uhwo.hawaii.edu/commencement following the event.
