UH Manoa Names Gavin Masuda the 2002 Albert Simone Scholar
University of HawaiʻiThe University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa Student Equity, Excellence and Diversity Office announced that Gavin Masuda has been named the 2002 Albert J. Simone Scholar.
Masuda is a business major and hopes to become a CPA and open his own firm after completing his degree. He was recently elected the director of marketing for the Business Executive Society of Tomorrow (BEST), is a member of Alpha Beta Chi, and also serves as a student ambassador for the Office of School and College Services. Masuda is a graduate of Punahou School and a recipient of the 2002 Presidential Scholarship.
Albert J. Simone, whom the scholarship is named after, served as president of the University of Hawaiʻi from 1984-1992. The scholar is selected from among the ten college juniors chosen to receive the Presidential Scholarship, an award presented to juniors within the UH system who have a minimum grade point average of 3.7 for all college level work, a record of sustained progress in academic courses, and evidence of superior academic achievement or creative endeavor.
