India’s architectural and urban landscape is being remade in exuberant ways at a defining moment in its history. India is now a critical site of unprecedented urban, social and territorial rearrangements that are both exhilarating and paradoxical. An euphoric urbanism, triggered by new economic growths, mediatic technology and transnational practices, is intersected by the paradoxes of an ecologically frayed landscape. Where does architecture sit in that landscape?
Kazi K. Ashraf teaches at the School of Architecture and writes on the history and theory of architecture. One of his interests is architecture in Asia, particularly South Asia. His recently edited volume of Architectural Design titled "Made in India" received the International Committee of Architectural Critics Award from
UIA (International Union of Architects).
