HONOLULU, HAWAIʻI — The University of Hawaiʻi has selected Violeta Baguyo as the 2009 recipient of the President‘s Award for Excellence in Building and Grounds Maintenance. This award honors a UH employee who exhibits dedication and sustained superior performance in a maintenance, landscaping, custodial, shop or trucking position.

As a janitor at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa‘s William S. Richardson School of Law, Baguyo has consistently exhibited superior performance in her custodial services. She has received overwhelming praise from the law school‘s faculty and staff and is well known for going above and beyond her responsibilities. "She‘s truly a professional who touches the lives of the entire law school community and whose efforts always leave a lasting impression for our visitors," said Law School Dean Aviam Soifer.

Baguyo is commended for her cheerful attitude, infectious smile and commitment to the success of the law school. Associate Professor of Law Mark Levin said, "Violeta‘s personality contributes to our students learning by setting a valuable model of diligent service, respect, care, and maturity which they constantly, albeit subconsciously most of the time, observe. In this regard, Violeta does not just keep our facility attractive and well maintained. Rather, she is helping to make our students better lawyers for the state and beyond."

Baguyo will be recognized for her achievements along with other UH award recipients at the annual Convocation ceremony in the fall at the UH Mānoa campus. The ceremony is open to the public at no charge, and no reservations are needed. For more information on the awards ceremony, visit http://www.hawaii.edu/about/awards.
