HONOLULU — Professor of Law Hazel Beh has accepted the appointment of Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at the William S. Richardson School of Law beginning this semester and serving until January 2008. Beh will provide academic leadership in this new position, serving as a key liaison between the faculty and the rest of the law school community, and assisting with academic planning and administration.

"Hazel already has done great service to the law school community in innumerable ways, including prior service as the acting associate dean. Her willingness to undertake and to help define this new role is hugely appreciated," said Dean Avi Soifer.

Beh, a 1991 alumna of the School of Law, returned in 1995 as acting associate dean and joined the faculty in 1996. She teaches contracts, advanced torts, and insurance law, and is also an advisor to the school‘s Law Review. Beh is a former director of the legal writing program and teaches higher education law in the College of Education.

She also was recently elected chair of the American Association of Law Schools, Insurance Law Section, and previously served as the chair of the Education and Contracts Sections of this leading national legal education organization.

Beh served as Hawaiʻi Supreme Court Justice Herman Lum‘s administrative law clerk after receiving her law degree, and as research and appellate coordinator for the City and County of Honolulu Corporation Counsel from 1993-1994. In addition to receiving her JD from the William S. Richardson School of Law at UH Mānoa, Beh received a BA from the University of Arizona, and both a MSW and a PhD in American Studies from UH Mānoa.
