HONOLULU — In light of two recent sexual assault incidences in the Mānoa area, one involving an 18-year-old community college student dorming near the Mānoa campus, university security officials are strongly encouraging everyone to be aware of their surroundings and avoid walking alone at night.

"We are doing all that we can to keep the campus safe, but we need the help of each individual to stay alert when they are traveling alone, especially at night," said Captain Donald Dawson, head of the campus security office at UH Mānoa. "If at all possible, we recommend people travel in groups or utilize the campus security escort service while on campus."

Campus security escort services are available day and night by calling 956-6911 or by picking up any of the emergency blue on-campus phones. Approximately 70 call box phones are available throughout campus and an escort can be summoned to your location. For more information on campus security, visit www.hawaii.edu/security.

Information about the most recent incident and police sketches of the alleged attackers have been posted at dorms and other public locations throughout the Mānoa campus.

CrimeStoppers and the Honolulu Police Department are requesting the assistance of the public in identifying the male suspects that participated in the March 28, 2005 assault. Anonymous calls may be made to CrimeStoppers at 955-8300 or dial *CRIME on your cellular phone. Free cellular calls are provided by AT&T, Nextel Hawaiʻi, Sprint PCS and Verizon Wireless Hawaiʻi.
