An agreement has been finalized to bring mobile beverage container recycling equipment to the UH Manoa campus two days a week during February and March starting next week.

The program will utilize six Envipco reverse vending machines mounted on a mobile redemption truck from RRR Recycling Services. The machines are designed to accept cans and bottles for the state‘s newly-implemented HI-5 beverage container recycling initiative. The pilot program will be reviewed after two months to determine whether it should be modified or extended.

The truck will be parked at the following locations:

Sundays (beginning February 6) — 9:00 a.m. — 3:00 p.m.
Music Department parking lot at Dole Street and University Avenue. Recyclers from adjacent communities are encouraged to use this service.

Mondays

11:00 a.m. — 12 noon — Andrews Amphitheatre

12:30 — 2:30 p.m. — Hale Aloha Lehua lower campus student residence halls

3:00 — 4:00 p.m. — Zone 6 parking lot adjacent to Center for Korean Studies

Cans and bottles may be deposited individually into appropriate slots for the nickel-per-container refund with a receipt printout that can be turned in for cash. A scale will be available for larger volumes of containers. The machines will accept eligible aluminum, other metal, glass and plastic containers.
