This Supplement refines the Scope of Work described in the Construction Alert issued for this project on 8/7/2012. Based on current information from the general contractor, the work is described as follows:

Thursday, August 16, 2012, 5:00 PM: Shut down of air conditioning equipment in the mechanical penthouse, including air handler units B and C, that serve the Biomed tower. Exhaust fans not powered by the penthouse Motor Control Center (MCC) will remain in operation. Dismantling of existing air handler unit A begins. Air handler units providing conditioned air to portions of the Biomed tower ground floor and all of Courts A, B, C, and D will not be affected by this work. C-MORE and IBR have dedicated air conditioning systems and will not be affected by this work. A brief interruption of the duct smoke detector supervisory function lasting several minutes will be conducted by the fire alarm system manufacturer and installer, and overseen by the general contractor, to switchover to new telecommunication lines serving the air conditioning control/monitoring system.

Friday, August 17, 2012, 12:00 AM: Shut down mechanical penthouse MCC to perform electrical work. Within 1 to 2 hours prior to the MCC shut down, to prevent damage to the elevator controllers, all tower elevators will be shut down. Other than electrical service to equipment in the Biomed penthouse, the MCC shut down is not expected to affect electrical service to the rest of the tower.

Friday, August 17, 2012, approximately 4:00 AM: Work on MCC completed. By this time, installation of new air handler units A1 and A2 is scheduled to have started.

Friday, August 17, 2012, by 8:30 AM: Installation of new air handler units A1 and A2 continues. Air handler units B and C are returned to service and conditioned air is provided to all parts of the tower except those areas to be served by air handler units A1 and A2. Elevators are returned to service.

Sunday, August 19, 2012, approximately 1:00 AM: Installation of new air handler units A1 and A2 is scheduled to be complete and the process of putting the new units into service begins. Testing and balancing will continue through the day in order to have the air conditioning system operating by the start of classes on Monday, August 20.

Tower rooms: T-102, T-103, T-106, T-201, T-202, T-205, 1st floor mailroom, 1st floor freight elevator lobby, the entire passage corridor between T-106 and the 1st floor mailroom/1st floor freight elevator lobby, the flights of stairs between the 1st and 2nd floors of both tower stairwells, Janitor's and utility rooms on the 1st and 2nd floor, and Men's and Women's Restrooms on the 1st and 2nd floors of the tower.

The general contractor has been instructed to install barricades and post signs at these locations.

New water meters will be installed at Dean Hall, Hawaii Hall and Webster Hall. The work will include excavation, installation of meter, backfilling and compaction.

There will be a water outage at Dean Hall, Hawaii Hall and Webster Hall beginning at 4:00 p.m. Friday, January 7, 2011 until Sunday midnight, January 9, 2011.

At completion of meter installation contractor will bleed the lines of air. Some residual air may be left in the lines and when initially opening faucets, air pockets may be noticeable. Keep faucets open until a steady flow of water is experienced.

The system shall include all wiring, raceways, pull boxes, outlet and mounting boxes, control equipment, alarm, and supervisory signal initiating devices, alarm notification appliance, and all other accessories and miscellaneous items required for a complete operating system. After acceptance of the new system by the University, all existing fire alarm control equipment and devices not connected to the new system shall be removed, boxed and delivered to the University. All other unused exposed junction boxes, conduits and wires shall be removed, and all damaged surfaces shall be restored to the acceptance of the University, as called for on the Plans and Technical Specifications.
