My time as a UH Manoa student prepared me immensely for my future life because I was compelled to broaden my horizons through clubs, community service, and research. At first, I did not know what I wanted to do as my career goal other than the fact that I leaned towards health sciences such as the pre-medical and pre-pharmacy route.

Throughout the four years of my undergraduate career, I grew so much as a person and as a student. I learned how to be more independent as well as collaborative, mature, and empathetic towards others which improved my abilities as a future health professional. Additionally, I became a better student given all the wonderful programs UH Manoa had to offer such as the Learning Emporium and Learning Assistance Center. I figured what I wanted out of my future career through the various relationships I created with others. Through shadowing experiences set up by a program at JABSOM’s AHEC, community service in health settings planned by clubs on campus, and the amazing resources UH Manoa provided me such as Academic Advising, Student Success Center, Pre-Health Advising Center and the Manoa Career Center, my route towards pharmacy became clearer - I had a better understanding of what my future entailed and how to get there.

I knew that I loved helping people and science but, over time, I slowly realized that my place in the world was more in pharmacy. I am incredibly grateful for all the help UH Manoa gave me because without their help, I would not be the person I am today and I would not have made it as far as I did.

Lynn Luu is currently a first-year pharmacy student at Washington State University in Spokane, WA.
