I dreamed of being a doctor since high school. At the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa (UHM), I decided to major in biology because I had an interest in medicine, but also because my interest was in that subject.
On December 24, 1999, a car accident left my life hanging by a thread. My stint in the trauma ICU sparked my interest in medicine. After taking a semester off to recuperate, I returned to UH Mānoa to receive my BA in Biology through the College of Natural Sciences.
I was born and raised in Hawaii in a low to middle-income family. My parents made many sacrifices to provide a good private school education for my two siblings and me. They instilled in me a desire to improve myself through education and experiences.
