Campus Administration

Chancellor Virginia S. Hinshaw is the chief executive officer of the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa and is responsible for the administration and management of the campus. As chancellor, she is an officer of the University of Hawaiʻi System of 10 constituent institutions of which UH Mānoa is the flagship campus.

The chancellor reports to David McClain, the president and executive officer of the UH System. Charged with electing the UH System president, the Board of Regents formulates policy and exercises control over the 10 constituent institutions of the UH System through the president. The board is composed of 15 regents appointed by the governor and confirmed by the legislature.

The Chancellor's Office oversees four vice chancellors including the vice chancellor for academic affairs, the vice chancellor for research & graduate education, the vice chancellor for administration, finance & operations, and the vice chancellor for students.

The chancellor's advisors include the Mānoa Executive Team, which consists of the school and college deans and others who advise on key operational and policy issues and on campus regulations, programs, and institutional structure. The UH Mānoa Faculty Senate is composed of all UH Mānoa faculty members and acts on behalf of the faculty for campus-wide matters. The Graduate Student Organization and the Association of the Students of the University of Hawaiʻi represent students' issues. In addition, the Kūaliʻi Council advises on matters important to Native Hawaiians. The chancellor also consults with the heads of other offices and departments to address more specific issues and concerns.
